US President Donald Trump has announced that the American Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of Gilead’s Remdesivir drug in the treatment of Covid-19 patients in emergency situations. Trump previously stated that another drug used for malaria treatment has been approved for Covid-19 use.
Donald Trump made this statement at an event in the White House, where he attended with Gilead CEO Dan O’Day.
Dan O’Day said his company donated 1 million bottles of medicine.
The U.S. National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has previously announced that the antiviral drug Remdesivir, which was developed against Ebola, works in combating the corona virus.
According to the news in the BBC, it was found in the experiments conducted in hospitals in various countries that the drug reduced the duration of symptoms from 15 days to 11 days.
Another study published in the medical journal Lancet stated that the drug did not work in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
